Spring Cleans

Spring is peak season for maintenance people, with November and December being particularly busy.

This is defintiely a time to avoid starting major projects like deck builds, landscape gardening, etc. You don’t want to be chasing down quotes from busy tradespeople after October.

This is what I recommend for a home maintenance schedule as the weather warms up.

Early Spring / late winter::

  • Rubbish removal

  • gutters and drain cleaning, because spring can be very wet

  • Lawn care. Seeding, turf laying, coring.

  • Hard pruning and hedging

  • New plantings

  • Clean all your filters (AC units, dishwasher , washing machine, vents, rangehoods) . Call the squad can do all these at once.

  • Do a maintenance audit of the property to spot problems that need immediate attention, or adding to a schedule a few months down the road. .

Mid Spring:

  • Continued lawn care and hedging

  • weed spraying

  • power washing paths and driveways.

  • painting and staining

Late Spring and early summer: Get your house ready for guests.

  • cleaning cleaning cleaning. bins, BBQs, windows, solar panels, fans, appliances

  • install irrigation systems for gardens.

  • weeding and mulching

  • Final house prep for bushfire season.

My final piece of advice is don’t procrastinate. In 2025, the Call the Squad team worked 31 days straight in the lead up to Christmas. Scheduling your maintenance gets you much better results, and helps you avoid the pre-Christmas madness..
